A new spring start
As the storms of winter subside you can sure tell that spring is here. More daylight and warmth in the air got me thinking about getting rid of the winter blues and getting spring fit. A trip to Albany Mega Centre for a new bike inspired me to get the house spring fit too.
It’s been a long winter characterised by cold and wet weather but also the storms of my love life, ending in me being single again. I hibernated for a couple of months, shielding myself from the elements and the world outside. I’ve been feeling a bit more positive about things over the last few weeks and realised that it’s all thanks to spring. The warmer weather, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets as I come and go from work, and the flowers blooming have all combined to improve my mood. Daylight savings is coming soon and I knew it was time to get back on the bike again – literally and metaphorically. The only problem, I didn’t have a bike.
I popped down to Pack and Pedal at Albany Mega Centre for a new bike. I drive from home to Sanders Reserve in Paremoremo and then walk around the reserve, down to the water. I wanted a bike that I could ride on the roads to get there and then off-road through the paths and trails at Sanders. There were so many bikes to choose from and at first, I felt a little overwhelmed. I explained what I wanted to the sales person and they quickly helped me narrow the options down. We talked through the benefits and features of each, and what was important to me. The perfect match quickly emerged and I jumped in, made the commitment, and bought a bike just right for me.
With a new bike, and bike riding gear sorted, I went for a casual look around the Albany Mega Centre, just to see what was out there. I’d forgotten how much fun shopping can be. The first real stop was at Adairs. I’ve always loved this store. They’ve got amazing homewares and because they are an independent brand, you don’t see the same things elsewhere. I quickly fell in love with their latest collection of towels. I chose a mauve set that felt like spring. I also found a floral duvet cover and a green throw for the lounge. With just a couple of purchases, I was feeling in the mood for giving the house a new lease of life, ready for spring, summer and beyond.
Continuing my walk around the centre I stopped at Lighting Direct. A crisp clean floor lamp caught my eye and I knew immediately that it would look fantastic in the entranceway. I paired it with a large linen lampshade that would make the space feel light, warm and welcoming.
The customary stop at Briscoes saw a few new items to liven up my everyday living including new wine glasses, a bright green salad bowl and floral-inspired placemats.
The final stop was Farmers Home. Their new spring/summer collection was out and looking amazing. I quickly fell in love with a large super-comfy armchair in a minty green colour. I instantly pictured myself curled up on it watching a movie, reading a book, drinking a glass of wine or wrapped up in the arms of a new lover. It was practically calling out to me to buy it.
In the week that followed, all my purchases arrived and were quickly put on display and into use. I’d already done three rides on the new bike and was loving it. Spring shopping at Albany Mega Centre has given me, and the house, a new lease of life. It also inspired me to do something about my love life, with a possible new love coming around for dinner this weekend.
